Brevard Public Schools

Parents should always have a role in their children’s education – make your voice heard!
Brevard Public Schools will hold a School Board primary election on August 23, 2022.
District 5 residents will choose between 2 candidates: Katye Campbell and Kimberly Hough. Because there are only two candidates, the winner of the August primary will be elected District 5 representative. There will be no general election for District 5 on November 8.

District 5 CANDIDATES

Katye Campbell is a mother of 3 and the current District 5 School Board Member. She is a volunteer with Junior Achievement as well as a board member of The Children’s Hunger Project.

Campbell is a registered Republican and has voted in Republican primaries.

Campbell supports parental rights, saying “parents are the #1 decision-makers in their children’s education.”

As a Board Member, Campbell voted against school mask mandates.

Campbell has voiced support for inappropriate books to be removed from school libraries.

Campbell is endorsed by Palm Bay Mayor Rob Medina.

Kimberly Hough is a mother of 2 and active volunteer in the school system. She is also a founder of the activist group “Parents for Safe Schools.”

Hough is a registered Democrat and has voted in Democratic primary elections.

Hough posted a tweet on her campaign Facebook page calling Florida Governor Ron DeSantis an “asshole” and added the caption, “I’m Kim Hough, and I approve this message.”

Hough has called for the school district to undergo “a full equity audit” and is supportive of Critical Race Theory.

Hough accused the Parental Rights in Education bill – which prohibits classroom instruction about sexual orientation or gender identity in K-3 classrooms – of “creating a climate of fear.”

Hough does not support school choice or voucher programs.

Hough claims “parents have always had the right to make decisions about their education” and that “if a parent decides they do not want their child to follow [public life] rules or requirements, there are choices for private or homeschool education.”

Referring to the recently enacted “Stop WOKE Act,” Hough says “hatred for our LGBTQ students, teachers and families becomes legal today.”
